Yellow Thames is a site-specific performance artwork unfolding along the River Thames in London.
Growing up alongside the Yellow River, Li brings the embodied tradition of hand-pulled noodles to the River Thames, using dough as narrative material and hand-pulling as a performative language. The performance explores the relationship between hometowns, migration, and cultural identity.
Through the continuous act of pulling dough by hand, the noodle gradually transforms into an elongated flowing body — stretching, thinning, resisting gravity, accumulating tension, and eventually reaching its physical limit.
The performance continues: pulling the noodle until it can no longer be pulled.
At moments of collapse, breakage, and fragmentation, the work reveals how hometown memory and identity become stretched, distorted, and continuously reshaped through migration and cross-cultural encounters.
